However, if you have not been organised and moving day is tomorrow (it has a habit of arriving far quicker than you think) then you will want to know how to move home quickly. In this comprehensive guide, we share with you all the shortcuts to moving home at the last minute.
Now, with those jobs done and ticked off your home moving checklist, the next couple of days should be easier and far less stressful.
At this stage of your home move the last minute things to do before moving is double-checking everything is ready to go and that any arrangements that you have made are double-checked.
So, to give you some reassurance that you are as prepared as possible for moving home tomorrow, we have produced a comprehensive list of things to do the day before moving home.
Moving House Tomorrow Checklist
Here are 18 things that are essential to get done today so that your home move is as easy as possible tomorrow.
None of these last-minute checks are hugely time-consuming, but they will put your mind at ease and could prevent any delays or frustrations on moving day.
#1 Essentials Box Packed
Your moving day essentials box should be packed with all the things that you are likely to need on moving day.
This could include items such as medicines or food and water.
You may choose to have one box or bag for each member of the family or one communal box.
In any event, this box should not be loaded onto the removal van and should stay within easy reach.
Must read: How to Prepare Your Open First Box in which we offer suggestions for things that you should consider putting into your moving day essentials box.
#2 Moving Day Tool Kit Prepared
There are likely to be a few little DIY jobs that need immediate attention at your new home so it makes sense to have a few basic tools to hand.
You may like to read: In Essential Tools for Moving Day we suggest some tools that it would be prudent to have easily accessible on moving day. From reassembling furniture to having spare light bulbs, this tool kit should cover your needs for most moving day jobs.
#3 Home Moving Binder Completed
In your home moving binder you will have created a manual for your old home so that the new owners know where the stop cocks are, what the alarm codes are, all the guarantees for appliances, and any other information that they will find useful.
You may like to read: How to Create a Home Moving Binder in which we suggest the types of information that you should include in your home moving binder.
#4 New Home Information Collated
Ensure that the people vacating your new home have left all the information you need about your new home, just as you have done for the people moving into your old home.
Alternatively, have a list of questions to get answers to about the new home. Use the template for the home moving binder above to find out all you need to know about your new home before they move out.
#5 Pets Taken into Boarding Kennels
If possible it makes sense to take your pets to the boarding kennels today. This will save you time tomorrow morning and make moving day more relaxed.

#6 Children Taken to Minders
If you have arranged for someone to take care of the kids whilst you move it may be a good idea to take them today. Then you will not be rushing around in the morning to drop them off.

#7 Check Route to Your New Home
Check that no road works etc have sprung up on the route to your new home.
Not only will this give you time to prepare a new route but will ensure you are not stuck in traffic jams when you could be settling into your new home.
If you are moving home yourself and driving your own van, ensure any new route does not have weight or height restrictions that the van will exceed.
Don’t forget to let the removal company know about any new road works so that they too can plan accordingly.
#8 Print out directions to your new home
Even if you have GPS on your phone or Sat Nav in your car it is always a good idea to have a paper copy of the route to your new home. You never know when the signal may fail.
#9 Fuel the Car
Ensure your car is fully fueled as this will save you time tomorrow.

In this guide to moving home by car, we look at how to prepare your car, how to load it safely, lifting techniques for ensuring your safety when loading a car, and how to load a trailer or roof box.
#10 Final Check-In With Removal Company or Van Hire Company
Give your removal company a final call to ensure that everything is ready for tomorrow and to let them know if there are any changes to the route.
If you are moving home yourself using a hire van then it is essential that you double-check the arrangements for tomorrow.
Van hire companies are notorious for not having the right van available when you turn up to collect it on moving day.
This is also true when hiring moving equipment. Ensure that everything you have reserved for tomorrow is confirmed as being available. Moving home without a furniture dolly will be no fun at all.
Even if your van hire company has let you down, it is not the end of the world. You can find a reputable removal company to move you at the last minute by filling out this form.

#11 Ensure Your Mobile Phones are Charged
Ensure that you fully charge your mobile phones tonight.
#12 Duplicate List of Essential Telephone Numbers Created
It is worth having a paper list of essential telephone numbers for tomorrow. This may include the Removal Company, solicitors, estate agents, landlord, or vendors’ numbers.
#13 Check Lift or Parking is Reserved
If you have had to reserve the lift or parking for tomorrow it is worth just making a call to double-check that everything is still OK.
#14 Final Destination Checks
The same goes for your destination. If you have had to arrange reserved parking or the use of the lift, then a call to ensure that the arrangements are still OK would be a good idea.
#15 Assemble Cleaning Kit
Cleaning wipes are a convenient and safe way to take cleaning products to your new home. There is no chance of spilling any chemicals and they are easy to transport to your new home.

#16 Have Some Cash Handy
It might be a good idea to have some cash on you tomorrow. You might need to stop for refreshments on the way to your new home, or there may be no cashpoint near your new home and you need something from the local shop.
And although it is not expected, you may wish to tip your removal team if they do an exceptional job.
#17 Clean and Check Though Your Home
You probably cleaned each room as it was emptied when you were packing, but it is worth a second quick wipe over and recheck all the cupboards to ensure that nothing has been left behind.
Remember to check the loft and outbuildings especially.
You will do a final walk-through before you leave for the last time tomorrow, but doing a check now will give you peace of mind that everything has been done.

There is nothing worse than oversleeping and needing to rush around on moving day.
Set your alarm nice and early so that you can have a relaxed breakfast and start the day off in a relaxed state of mind.
This tick list of things that you should do the day before moving is designed to ensure that moving day goes as smoothly as possible.
You cannot check enough times that everything has been done.
By crossing these things off of your checklist you will have done all you can to plan for a successful moving day.
Of course, there are still things that could go wrong on moving day, and there are things that will be outside of your control, but just as you have meticulously planned for moving day, so will the removal company that you have hired.
They will have likely faced any issues on moving day a thousand times so trust in their skills and experience to overcome those issues.
