Tonbridge is a town of roughly 40,000 people located on the River Medway, approximately 29 miles from London. The town has retained much of its historical market town feel and the well maintained Castle Gatehouse is an attraction of particular significance. The castle was built following the Norman Conquest to guard the crossing of the River Medway. Tonbridge is also home to a large country park, sporting facilities, and the Oast Theatre all of which help to give the town its own unique atmosphere. Tonbridge clearly has lots to offer and with so much going on, it is unsurprising that reallymoving.com and our RICS regulated Chartered Surveyors have helped over 300 people relocate to the town in the last year alone.
The River Medway was expanded in 1740 to allow goods to be transported from Tonbridge to the Thames and beyond. Today the Warf on the Medway Navigation is a particularly beautiful place to explore but with changing weather patterns, flooding is increasingly becoming a problem. In December 2013, 76mm of rain fell in 24 hours causing the River Medway to break its banks at Avebury Avenue. Although the flood waters have since receded and a new 320 meter flood defence has been installed, flood damage still remains. It is most commonly noticed in the form of damp, mould or rot and can have a serious negative impact on property value. This is one reason that reallymoving.com strongly recommends the services of our expert Chartered Surveyors as they will be able to provide you with a home survey which will outline any damages your prospective property has suffered.
Whether you want to explore Tonbridge’s parks and the surrounding countryside or relax in one of its restaurants or leisure centres, our Chartered Surveyors are here to help you move with confidence. With their help you can be sure your move to Tonbridge will be as smooth and straightforward as possible.
