St Georges European

We moved our furniture from Spain to UK whilst in Covid lock down so was unable to oversee the move. Company were professional when they first quoted and the initial removal but after that it was a nightmare.

We asked for an inventory of goods collected and was told one would be provided once the goods were in the UK. This never happened and when the goods arrived at our UK home several items were missing and also damaged. Contacted St Georges several times and got nowhere. Claimed for damaged from their insurance company and have been offered £100 for £3000 worth of lost and damaged goods. Avoid this unprofessional company if you want your furniture to arrive safety. £3000 we paid for a service we didn't receive.

I relocated to Southern Spain and my furniture and belongings sat in UK storage. After deciding to put roots down in Spain I decided to pull my belongings out of storage and have them join me in Spain. I started with looking through the local ads in the free expat papers and came across several removal companies of which St Georges European was one. After receiving a number of wildly differing quotes I went with St Georges who were by far the cheapest.

They did everything they said they were going to do in terms of pick up and delivery. They picked up and delivered precisely as agreed. No problem.

They unloaded a Luton Van sized vehicle within an hour and a half and set off on their next job. It was then the problems started to unravel. You would reasonably expect one or two items to be damaged in the removals process but I never expected the extent of their lack of care over someone else's belongings. They weren't small things either, There was probably in excess of £500 worth of damage across 7 items.

The vast majority of items had been re-wrapped by them in their own branded bubble-wrap and packaging. Where they had not chosen to protect items in such a way (and I can't understand why they wouldn't other than out of sheer laziness) then the items arrived looking like they had been transported in a cement mixer. Items were broken, torn, dented and parts snapped off. The extent of the damage could have only been derived from them throwing my belongings around like rag dolls rather than treating them as if they were their own.

The mark of a good company is not just the delivery process itself but how they deal and respond to problems that have clearly occurred due to their lack of care and attention and this is where they failed miserably. After approaching them within the timescales agreed and sending them videos of the broken and damaged goods there was no apology, no acceptance of fault nor any offer to compensate me properly for the damage that they had caused. Instead it was almost like they were saying "Talk to the hand".

I regret using St Georges European. They may have been the cheapest out there but, like everything else in life, you pay for what you get.

I wouldn't use them again. If you do use them then insist that they package everything properly because your belongings will not be respected whilst in transit.

The firm I booked for removals subcontracted the work to St George's which concerned me at first but I need not have worried. The young man rang the day before as promised to confirm the time, 2 young men turned up bang on time and were very polite and hard working. They wrapped all of the items I wanted shipped to Australia, filled a dozen boxes and gave me an inventory. It all turned up in Sydney in the time frame that was stated and things went smoothly at that end. I was very pleased with the service.
