We love social media. More and more moving professional and moving companies are utilizing the social media channels like Facebook and Twitter as well as review websites like this one. It is getting more and more important for a serious business nowadays to participate in the social networks. Here is how to get started with your fresh account.
In 2011 we introduced a review filter. Since then it evolved and our engineers are constantly making updates and working on it. Its purpose is still the same – to protect consumers and businesses from fake and malicious reviews.
While most moving company owners focus on providing great service and let their service speak for itself, a small percentage of companies apparently would prefer to take a less than honest approach. That includes writing their own reviews, paying others to write reviews and, at times, even posting negative reviews on competitors’ pages.
These types of practices are not fair to consumers and they certainly are not fair to other businesses. If they were allowed to occur, they would erode trust, which would significantly reduce the usefulness of the service for both consumers and the good businesses that rely on the positive word-of-mouth they’ve earned with hard work. There are also some reviews that does not comply with our terms of service.
The red warning signs
Sometimes when a moving company crosses the line we are forced to take further action. You may have already noticed that we display the number of hidden reviews on the company’s page. Right after the listing with reviews you may find the filtered reviews counter.
When our system have effectively filtered a large number of reviews for a company, a red sign may appear on the profile. This is because we want to warn our visitors about a potential issue with the company.
As every algorithm it is not a perfect system. Building a review system to filter hundreds of suspicious reviews and protect the integrity of the website is a very difficult task. Our filter takes a conservative approach and errs on the side of protecting the consumer, when necessary. This is why it is possible that legitimate review content sometimes gets filtered. And while we work hard to improve our review system every day, we’d argue it’s one of the more effective systems out there.
That said, we know our system is not perfect, and we always encourage feedback.
