Long-distance move from Essex to Essex

Fantastic experience

I had changed my moving date 3 times and Alban was so patient with me no problem. The day came there were 3 men including the boss. They dismantled my bed my washing machine,Oven and fitted some them all in the new place. The boys were lovely such fun and could not do enough for me. We had a great time it was such fun they were really funny and instead of me dreading leaving my house of 36 years it was all done with a happy friendly fun filled organised removal. They knew exactly what to do at any problem and helped without me having to ask them. The best move I have had lovely lovely men.

Long-distance move from Romford, Greater London to Reading, Berkshire

Undue care, damaged items.

We were guided by their hand-picked testimonials rather than by objective reviews. Quotes for moving and storage for 6 months were comparable to others, and we were led to believe a container would arrive at our house for loading and that this same container would be delivered to our new home in due course. Most of the boxing-up was done by ourselves, but some shelves and kitchen cupboards were left to them, all by prior agreement.
Items were loaded into a van instead, and were delivered from a van. The effort was misjudged and a second van and team were sent to assist.
At all times the company bent over backwards to accommodate us, with the result (in our opinion) that they overstretched themselves.
Twice the number of moves means twice as much scope for loss and damage, and there was damage to a wardrobe (which we claimed for) and to some lesser items (which we did not claim for). When valuable painting came out of the van, they were not wrapped to export spec as promised, although they were not damaged.
When we claimed £200 for damage and £25 for lost hardware, they were reasonably cooperative, but we would have preferred no damage to compensation.

Monarch Movers.

This company is expensive relative to other removal companies, but the value for money wasn't there. I wouldn't use this company again and wouldn't recommend them.

They had recently moved a friend of mine, and she said they'd taken care of the whole move for her without problems. One of her concerns was hiring someone that would disassemble and reassemble her furniture correctly, which they apparently did. I wanted a smooth move with minimal damage, without the hassle of having to disassemble and reassemble furniture myself, and all packing materials provided; therefore, I was willing to pay the high price for the convenience. That's why I chose this company.

Mistake. My friend had a totally different experience than I had.

The cost of the move was based on the amount of things I had and amount needing dis/reassembling, and distance of the move. It was approximately 600 pounds, which was meant to include all packing materials (but actual packing/unpacking myself), disassembly and reassembly of bed and rolling drawers underneath, cost of van and 3 men to move over a distance of approximately 3 miles.

Although packing materials were provided, not nearly enough was. Even after requesting more, I still didn't have enough to wrap expensive paintings and protect my nicer furniture. The price I paid included chipped furniture and more than just minor scratches on frames, etc. They'll tell you that they'll cover furniture, paintings, etc. in blankets in their van. I unfortunately was the only one there that day and wasn't able to monitor everything as it was loaded in their van. By the time I saw my paintings being scooted across the bottom of the van without protection underneath, it was too late as most everything else had already been loaded. I hoped there'd be no damage to my furniture and paintings, but there was.

The movers themselves were on time, patient and accommodating while placing furniture in my new place. However, there were 3 of them, and I was unfortunately unable to monitor what the one reassembling some of my furniture was doing. I found out too late that the reassembly of my bed and rolling drawers underneath it resulted in very loose screws to the point that the wheels were falling off the drawers. I eventually had to redo it all myself.

After the move was completed I discovered sizable chips in the door frames in my new place, scratches on some of the walls, as well as on my furniture, which apparently occurred while things were being moved in/out. The base of my pine wardrobe had actually collapsed on itself.

When I contacted this company afterwards regarding the damages, I was told I'd waited too late to inform them and that insurance had run out. Fair enough, except that I was told they'd be in contact so that the issues could be further discussed. They never contacted me. I contacted them 3 more times so I could arrange for them to pickup the packing materials, such as the cardboard boxes, which they specifically advertised as doing. Every time I called, I was told that they'd be in touch the next time they were in the area. After a few weeks I gave up and arranged to have everything taken to the recycling center myself.

If this bad experience were just limited to the damage, I could chalk it all up to bad luck with the specific movers they sent out that day. However, the negative experience went across the board from the movers to the delivery of the packing material to the communication (and lack thereof) with their office.

My issue with this company isn't so much that they didn't compensate for damages as I understand that I didn't inform them of it within the agreed time frame. My problem is the fact that the damages occurred in the first place. The value for money wasn't there. The quality of the service provided was mediocre, and I've received the same level of service with half the price in the past. The fact that they completely ignored requests to pickup packing material, however, was blatantly unprofessional.

Move to SW France.

We moved from London UK to SW France.
We were more than pleased with this company who, we feel, went the extra mile to accomodate us. We had a number of fragile items and some very heavy ones (including a piano). Everything was carefully packed and arrived in pristine condition at the other end. The staff were pleasant and helpful at all times. A move to France is an expensive event and we found their rates comparable to others. I would seriously recommend this company!

Nice people, not the best move.

We booked monarch for our move in June and we were with the quality of the move. When we went to clam for a damaged sideboard and a few other broken smaller items, they refused to pay, as they require any claims to be made within 7 days, and we made our claim on day 13 post move. Besides the damaged pieces we were hoping to claim, they also didn't protect our belongings as other more professional companies have done with our other moves. Our mattress was moved without any protection (this was quite shocking), so it arrived dirty. All other companies we've used have absolutely used mattress protectors - who wants their raw mattress resting on the floor, outside, in a van? They also put our bed back together and stripped some screws which was disappointing. We would not use their service again.

Friendly, reliable and reasonably priced.

We had a great experience with Monarch. They packed our house and moved us the following day. The staff were great - friendly, very hardworking and reliable. We had no complaints about their packing and the move itself. The staff constantly checked we were happy and all our possessions were very well packed. We couldn’t have asked for more!

Great service.

We needed to move quickly and Monarch were able to help. They were very helpful and everything went smoothly. We chose to pack and unpack ourselves. They worked very quickly and everything arrived at our new home in one piece. Would definitely recommend them.
