International Move From Northern Ireland To USA

The move between countries was professional, efficient and smoother than I ever expected.

When I began this process, if I knew then how organized and competent both Isaacs and their partner company in Ireland (McGimpseys) were going to be, then I would not have been as stressed as I actually was.

But I suppose given it was a transatlantic move some degree of worry is normal about how safe our stuff was - kraken attack, ghost pirates plundering the cargo hold, mysterious wormhole sucking our crates to Dimension X - as there are some situations no insurance policy will cover.

The Isaac’s team (Craig and Savanah) remained in regular contact from the beginning of the move and even after the move was complete to ensure all was completed to our satisfaction. They were always proactive making contact both by telephone and e-mail throughout the move to provide updates and answer any questions which occurred to me along the way. I have to say both they and (Catriona) their counterpart in Ireland, always provided me with friendly, professional and reassuring support during the move, which did lower my anxiety levels as I began to trust that Isaacs was an efficient well oiled machine, and stood back to let them do their thing.

The removal teams on both sides of the Atlantic were pleasant, courteous , careful and respectful of our belongings during the packing, inventory, and actual removal stages. It reassured me to some extent that our contents would most likely make it in one piece to the USA, aside from any accident which given the distance may or not occur. I believe by this stage my fear of moving was being lowered by the fact that I had begun to trust in the fact that the two companies were totally friendly and very focused on trying to deliver an excellent service to their customers, and which for me they certainly did.

Back in May 2023, I was getting quotes from various removal companies for their services, and Isaacs quote came in at about $1200 below the others ($6000 for 54 book boxes and two small furniture chests including insurance - my other quotes ranged from between $7400 and an eye watering $10500).

My dilemma was - is cheaper necessarily better? and I stewed on that question for a long while. What swung me to going with Isaacs was that this move felt like a major ordeal to me and I had nothing but questions and more questions, of which many may have sounded stupid but to me who had a lot of anxieties needed to know to be sure I was happy I saw the whole picture, and had a very decent overview of what we were about to get into. I spent some time emailing and speaking by voice with Craig at Isaacs and to be fair, it was his attention, patience and good humor that sold me on the company and why I happily chose Isaacs as our movers, as I felt he wanted my business and I was made feel that my choice mattered.

I hope never to have to make a transatlantic or any other kind of move in my lifetime, but corny as it may sound, I’d be organizing that move via Isaacs, because my experience was very positive and that strikes me as being a very reassuring mindset to have if ever there should be a next time.

Consumers Beware: Avoid Isaacs at All Costs.

Isaacs Moving & Storage may be the single worst moving company EVER. We spent over $6000 for moving and another nearly $500 for full replacement value insurance. They managed to break four items and the items they broke were very valuable. We thought it would be easy to process a claim with them and their insurance company Anthem (I mean that IS what they promised when they sold us the insurance), but we have been strung out to dry and have spent the past 12 months fighting through arbitration to be paid the replacement value for the four items they destroyed. There's STILL no end in sight.
AVOID ISAACS AT ALL COST! Pick any other company and you'll be better off than you would be with these liars, cheaters, and thieves. They should be absolutely embarrassed to call themselves a "trusted" company. What a joke!
They claim our broken items were "old" and have little to no value. Yes..the fact that they are old is absolutely true. Antiques are indeed, old. Each of the broken items was collected in far away lands - South Africa, Indonesia, and Greece. Isaacs valued replacement costs based on information they found on eBay. They might as well have used Wal-Mart.com. No disrespect to Wal-Mart, but that seems about the only type of value the thieves at Isaacs seem to understand. Everything MUST be replaceable online, right? No regard at all is given to the true value of rare and cultured artifacts. What a shame to have to write this review. .

Honest Mover.

Since there is no opportunity for Isaacs to respond to the review of Richard Fe, I felt like it was necessary to set the record straight for our internet customers. Richard Fe was  a customer that received the best possible service a moving company can provide but Richard Fe has an agenda and for that I am sorry. We arrived right on time for his delivery in NY and I was there (GM) to supervise the delivery. At the conclusion of the delivery Richard Fe shook my hand and told me that we had done an excellent job..there had been some problems during the course of this move but Isaacs had responded quickly and resolved each one and went to enormous lengths to make sure that Richard Fe was a happy customer. We honored his claim for some small damge that  occurred and paid him for the full amount that he requested. I gave him my cell phone at the conclusion of the move and asked him, if he had any questions, to call me directly. He never, until today, called me. .

Great Movers!

Isaac's Moving and Storage did a great job with a tricky long-distance move!  I needed to move my belongings from RI to VA with one month of storage.  The overall price for the move was $2700 for 3000lbs (the minimum), which was a little expensive.  But the customer service and the interactions with the company made it a good decision for me.  An additional complication was that I was driving to VA trying to time arriving when my belongings did, and I did this right after Thanksgiving break.  With the break it was difficult to predict when drivers were going to be sent, but I was able to get 48-hr notice within the estimated delivery week.  Pickup and Delivery times were extremely prompt, and they were careful to explain everything to me (including insurance options).  On both ends it took them about an hour to pack up a 2-bedroom apartment.  The packers were careful to repack things that they didn't think would make it - though there is an extra charge for packing/unpacking, all their decisions were reasonable and it was worth the small amount of money (about $50 for packing and packaging materials). Only one small thing broke, which was a fragile statue that I didn't pack very well and they didn't see (it was in a box).  Everything else was in excellent condition. A couple weeks after they delivered my belongings, I still hadn't received an official receipt for all payments.  However, I called the Accounting department and they were very quick to contact the delivery driver, get the last payment charged and get me a receipt. Overall, I was extremely happy with my decision to use Isaac's.  I had to call a couple times to (a) refine the delivery time to match my schedule and (b) to get a proper receipt.  All of my questions were answered promptly and courteously.

Isaacs moving company.

They were professional, timely and efficient.
They picked up our stuff and held it for two nights. Same crew came and delivered and they were just great! There was nothing damaged and were very accommodating as to where we wanted everything placed in the new house. The took apart all the beds and a crib and reassembled everything. Very happy and would recommend them to anyone!

Terrible Company - DO NOT USE.

Absolutely the worst movers I ever encountered.

Lo-balled the estimate and the actual came to almost twice as much.

Numbskull movers that broke many things and packed poorly (wife's wedding dress scrunched up with child's toys?)

Denied taking doors off of refrigerator when I stood right there and watched them do it.

Broke wood detail on old house we moved into. Hid the damaged wood and denied it.

Please go to another company. Not worth the hassle even if you get insurance to cover the things they WILL break.

Excellent experience.

As this is going to be a somewhat lengthy review, let me start by saying that I was extremely impressed by Isaac's and would wholeheartedly recommend them. Now, onto the details.

Over the past four years, my wife and I have had 4 full household moves - two intra state and two inter state, so we have fairly significant experience in moving, which includes a terrible experience with another local moving company where we had significant damage to our furniture. On the contrary, everything involved with this move with Isaac's was done very professionally and we had absolutely no problems.

First positive was how they dealt with the estimate. Several other companies I spoke to wouldn't come out to our place and simply estimated over the phone based on "standard" moves. Having tried that once before, we knew their estimates were useless, so we had three companies come out, including Isaac's. However, the big differentiator is that Isaac's used both an in home estimator and a separate move coordinator. The other companies tried to have the same person do both jobs which didn't work well as they were oftentimes busy doing other estimates. Even though everyone was told the same thing, one company totally misunderstood that we planned on packing everything ourselves and quoted me for a full day of packing. Instead, Isaac's fully understood what we wanted to do and our timing and made every effort to provide us a very competitive quote that exactly met our timing expectations, which had virtually no wiggle room.

Second was how Isaac's planned the move. My wife wanted not to have to take off a day of work for the move, which limited the move to being over the weekend. Other moving companies either insisted on starting on Friday or scheduling the move day for 12 hours, neither of which were ideal. Isaac's offered a few different options and we chose the one that worked best for us.

Third, Isaac's was very responsive to any and all questions or concerns, again supporting their concept of the move coordinator. Owen Sullivan was extremely helpful and did everything he could to answer questions quickly as well as offer us a very competitive price.

Forth, and most important, the move staff was excellent. They clearly had been well trained but more importantly, they were pleasant and treated our belongings with respect. Nothing was damaged during the move which was not the case in 2 other moves and they took significant care with antique furniture and several pieces that had glass doors. They even found a very creative way to tie down a sleep sofa so it didn't expand while moving it, something the previous movers did not do.

I wouldn't hesitate to use Isaac's again or recommend them.

The worst choice in movers.

WARNING This review contains the truth of a company that has nice personnel on surface level but bad actual workers. The guys packed our stuff in their wardrobe boxes without getting confirmation to use them when we had tons of boxes they could have used. One of the guys told us that if they used a couple of their company logo boxes but removed the stuff from them after we moved we wouldn’t get charged for the use but we never actually said to use use them. My mom was packing in another room still because she’s 65 and has to make up for me, who is severely disabled, and packed until the last minute. I had to sit in the car while everything was happening because of my disability. I couldn’t watch them like a hawk, which I shouldn’t have to do, like I guess I should have been doing. They also took a 1 hour lunch break and charged us for it claiming it was apart of the drive time. It literally took us 45 minutes and we stopped for food and at the bank for cash on our way to the new residence. I forgot to also mention that they had the audacity to claim that our move started when they got to apartment complex which was before the scheduled move time. The apartment complex is not our property the apartment itself is our property. So they ended up using 20 wardrobe boxes (Without permission) ,when we had plenty (20+) of our own they could have used, charging us $20 a box. Do the math. Also they put most of the boxes in one room. So me, who is disabled and can’t lift anything, had to call a friend to help me find my bedding for my bed and will later get the same friend to put my bed on the easy to fold out frame I asked the guy to do for me (which he agreed to do later). Not sure why I got charged an hour of labor for them to travel since they were sitting in a vehicle and it didn’t take one hour. I have been way overcharged for their services and will seek a lawyer for their unprofessional practices and horrible treatment by the head worker and some horrible man from New York named Ron that treated my 65 year old mother with such disrespect when we tried disputing the box charges that weren’t approved. Please go with anyone else. Biggest mistake of my life going with this company. I will be posting this everywhere I can post a review for this mover.
