How to Make Moving Day Fun: 11 Great Tricks to Play This April Fools’ Day

OK, so moving home isn’t considered the most fun activity in the world, but that is no reason to pack away your sense of humour in a moving box.

Who doesn’t love a prank and what better day than April Fools’ Day to play a trick or two?

Yes, some of these are childish pranks, but they are harmless fun and will certainly make moving day more fun.

Choose the pranks that you know will work best on your victim or victims and what will mess with their heads the most. But beware of retaliation, we are just suggesting what you may like to do, we take no responsibility for what may follow.

But if you are moving home this April Fools’ then we have some great ways to make moving day fun and add some light relief to what can be an exhausting and stressful day.

11 Pranks to Make Moving Home More Fun

#1 Message on a Mirror

Using a spray that motorcyclists use to keep the rain off their visors, write on the bathroom mirror so that when the bathroom steams up the message is revealed.

You can be as creative, spooky, or cryptic as you like, you know your target and what will freak them out the most.

#2 Set the Timer on the TV

Most modern TV sets have a timer function so set the TV to come on at random times throughout the day.

You could also use a timer socket if your TV has no timer function.

#3 Place Bubble Wrap Under the Toilet Seat

There will be plenty of bubble wrap lying around as you unpack so place some under the rim of the toilet seat.

When your victim takes a seat the bubbles will burst.

You can also place the bubble wrap under rugs or a doormat for the same effect.

#4 Bluetooth Speaker

Hide a blue tooth speaker in the room that they are unpacking. Connect your phone to it then softly play some spooky voices or a child crying. Doing this randomly over a few hours will drive them crazy.

#5 Cupboard Full of Packing Peanuts

A great use of your packing peanuts is to fill a random cupboard with them. When your target opens the cupboard door they will get a shower of packing peanuts.

#6 Fill the Bathroom with Balloons

On the same theme as the prank above, fill the downstairs toilet or under-stairs cupboard with inflated balloons. If you can fill the balloons with helium it is even more fun.

#7 Plastic Spiders in a Moving Box

A few plastic spiders placed in moving boxes will make unpacking a bit more entertaining for you unless your victim has a real phobia of spiders in which case give this prank a miss.

#8 Move Things Around

As your victim moves on to the next room to unpack, go into a room they have finished and swap a few things around. Swapping mirrors with framed art is a great one and will really mess with their head.

As they try to figure out what is going on, go into the room they just came out of and do the same. But just do one or two subtle changes, swap chairs around, swap rugs between rooms, or put ornaments in another place.

If you can do this over several days it is even more fun.

#9 Fake Fuse

Place a fake fuse in a spare slot within the fuse box. Using masking tape and pen, label the fuse as an electric chair, cell, or torture chamber. Then show your victim what you found and send them on a mission to find the chair/cell/torture chamber.

#10 Set Up a Shrine

In a room that your victim will be sorting out, set up a shrine in a cupboard. It works best if it is a really random celebrity, with pictures, maybe an icon or two, and some half-burnt candles.

Try to make it as weird and spooky as you can for maximum effect.

#11 Set a Murder Scene

If there is carpet in a room pull it back and draw the outline of a murder victim on the floor in chalk. Add some dark brown paint for dried blood splashes, or red paint if you want the ‘just murdered’ look for extra effect.

It works best if the person you are pranking is in the room when you peel back the carpet to reveal the murder scene.

#12 Spraying Tap

Place a piece of sellotape across the rear half of the tap spout. When your victim turns on the tap the water will spray all over them.
