In this article we will travel forward in time to 2050, when the world as you know it may have changed beyond recognition. Technology undoubtedly will have continued to advance at an incredible rate, and our world, and in particular, your home, will be very different places.
But we are a website that has a huge library of articles about moving home, how could this affect you when you move home, and how could it affect the future of the home-moving industry?
What will our homes look like in the future? What advances in home automation and advances in home technology could we possibly have? What will the home moving experience of the future be like? Will we all possess our own super-powers by 2050 which will enable us to move home without the need of today’s super hero removal companies? Or will technology alone negate the need for home moving companies completely?
Although the application of the technology we will look at is still in its relative infancy today in 2017, imagine our world forty years from now……………. Imagine moving home without having to pack a single item…………..Imagine moving day without a removal company……………..
You could live in a world where within your home, every item you can possibly think of, is printed using your own home 3D printer……. If you can hold it, there is no reason why it cannot be printed.
What is 3D printing?
3D printing is the computer-controlled, sequential layering of materials to create three‑dimensional shapes. It was originally developed more than 30 years ago, and is now used in many industries including dentistry, construction, the automotive industry and clothing and footwear manufacture. The price of the technology, and the availabilty of the manufacturing knowledge, means that printers are now available for domestic use, which means that very soon they will likely be found in every home.
Let’s Do The Time Warp Again……..
It is 2050 and moving day arrives. You move your possessions to the recycling point built into the walls of your home. You feed each item into the recycle receptacle where the materials are broken down electronically to be reused by the new home owners. No packing materials to find. No moving lists to prepare. No removal company quotes to organize. Nothing to get lost or damaged during the move. No stress. No moving company. Recycle, then seal the front door and walk away.
Imagine your life in 3d
Let us take a tour of your home in 2050. We open the front door – a composite of metal and plastic printed by your in-home 3D printer. The furniture, flooring, ornaments – all printed in various materials, from metal to plastic to plant fibres to wood. The walls are covered in intelligent wall coverings that can be programmed to change colour or pattern, or react to temperature or touch or even your mood, as measured by your brain wave patterns. No more decorating or getting bored with your colour scheme.
Upon the walls are picture frames with digital pictures and videos, programmable to change in sync with your walls or in a slideshow effect.
Don’t like the view from your windows? Change the view by downloading images or scenic films from the Internet, which are then projected into the window frames.
In the kitchen, there is no washing machine or tumble dryer – no need for those antiques anymore. You can recycle and print out new clothing every day using the 3d printer.
The cooker is replaced by microwaves that can roast, grill, boil and fry. 4D technology will allow heating elements, batteries and electronics to be inserted into your 3D printed objects at the printing stage, (in fact, this technology was already being researched in 2017).
Kitchen utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups are all 3d printed. What if they are all produced from materials that only require a jet wash to be clinically clean again? It would get tedious printing out new plates or cups every time you used them, so an almost self-cleaning material is the answer.
Even your curtains, table cloths and towels can be digitally printed using plant fibre materials.
As you read this you are racking your brain trying to think of something that cannot be printed. So let’s look at consumables that we can find in your home in 2017 and how they may be replaced in 2050……
-
Make-up: Replaced by nano sized disks impregnated into your skin. Almost like invisible tattoos that you can colour yourself and change as often as you want. The particles could react to electrical pulses, each pulse programmed as a different colour.
- Soap or hair wash: Step into your shower cubicle and your body and hair is vacuumed by millions of tiny nozzles, each one removing any dirt particles.
- Deodorants: Your clothing material has the ability to evaporate sweat as it develops.
- Floor Cleaners: The materials that make your hard flooring or carpets have the ability to repel dust and dirt. The material charges the dust particles which are attracted by electromagnets built into the skirting boards (imagine air vents), which whisk the dirt and dust away.
- Washing up liquid: The crockery and pots and pans, as previously mentioned, are self-cleaning.
With imagination and the supporting technology, anything is possible. Is this the future of home 3d printing and the future of 3d technology? And when it comes to moving to a new home of course, there will be no removal company to organize come moving day.
Are you are moving into one of the new high-tech homes that incorporates Solidified Holograms?
