Moving house and no motivation to start packing? Does even packing for a weekend away seem like a monumental task? So, ‘overwhelmed’ by the prospect of packing an entire home when moving is understatement of the century, right? Well, I don’t want to alarm you, but moving day will be here before you know it!
‘But I have never moved home before, when do you need to start packing for a home move?’ You need to start preparing for your home move right now, but fear not, we are here to help, so big breath……..let’s get started.
We will assume that you have all the packing materials you need, just not the enthusiasm you need to get started. Right?

Whilst we wait for the packing materials to be delivered, we can start on the most important aspect of the home move, decluttering. And we should start now.
‘But I have no enthusiasm for moving home, let alone any packing motivation’, …………… I know, you said earlier.
How can I get Motivated to Pack for my Home Move?
Of course, lack of motivation is different to being overwhelmed by the huge task of packing for your home move.
By breaking down your home moving checklist into manageable chunks you will soon chip away at the mountain of tasks to be completed, which will soon banish that feeling of being overwhelmed. And as we will discover, hiring the services of a reputable removal company will surely remove the anxiety of being overwhelmed by all the packing that needs to be done to move home.
It may also be that you feel overwhelmed only because you cannot see the wood for the trees. Maybe you just need to step back and get organized. I will stress again that decluttering is the first step to becoming organized before a successful home move, after that you can plan all the things that need to be done when moving home. We have created a downloadable and printable moving calendar and checklist which will help you in your planning stage.
Lacking motivation though is different altogether, and will require you to focus on the bright side of moving home so that you are soon enjoying all the benefits of your new home. But does your lack of motivation have more deep-rooted issues? Do you really want to move home? Does your partner want to move home but you don’t? We have a guide here that will help you explore whether that is the real reason for your lack of motivation, and what you can do to resolve that dilemma.
Like anything in life, if it is important to you, you will find a way. If it’s not you’ll find an excuse.

How can I pack for a home move without getting overwhelmed?
Look, we will not do any room by room packing list, no packing checklists, we are not even going to show you how to efficiently pack to move, (although if you want to learn how to do that just click here).
What we will do first, however, is prepare your home for packing, we will do this in bite-sized chunks, and we will achieve big results in very little time, whilst saving some money to boot. Win, Win and Win.
Decluttering is one of the most crucial aspects of home moving, so even if you are overwhelmed with the prospect of packing to move home, this is a task that cannot be ignored. In fact, your lack of enthusiasm for packing may be a huge bonus in the decluttering process, as you will be inclined to dispose of things rather than have to pack them.

So come on then, let’s start with these 3 small tentative steps on our home moving adventure. A little progress each day adds up to big results.
Crank up the radio, because music makes the world a better place!
Grab a roll of rubbish sacks.
Head for the easiest room in the house to pack.
That was painless, wasn’t it? Now for our next 3 steps. We are going to declutter this easy room first. Less clutter means less to pack, which means less to transport to your new home, which means lower removal costs. But you will need to be ruthless to gain the maximum benefit from this process. And by starting in the easiest room first, you will experience a huge morale boost by completing your first room.
Make a pile of all the things you want to throw out.
The second pile will have all the things that you can donate to charity or give away.
Another pile will have everything you want to sell.
All that remains now is to pack the items that you are definitely going to take to your new home. Again, we will make this as simple as possible to achieve some instant results.
Here are some great tips on how to pack to move in a hurry.
How to pack a room to move – Quick and Easy Packing Tips
Leave clothes that are in wardrobes on hangers. Just slip bin liners over the hangers as you would a suit carrier. Job done.
Anything that remains in drawers can stay there. They can be transported to your new home as they are. Another job ticked off.
Books can be packed in the smaller boxes you have so that they are not too heavy to move.
Blankets and duvets can go in the larger boxes as they are nice and light.
Take extra care when packing fragile items. Here are some great ideas for packing breakables.
Don’t forget to label every box clearly, with the contents listed, and the destination room clearly marked on the outside of the box. This will ensure that the unloading and unpacking process is so much easier. If the contents are fragile, remember to mark the box as ‘fragile’, or ‘this was up’, as appropriate. There is a useful guide here on how to label boxes.
That’s it then. Your first room packed, how to start packing to move out answered! And surely you must feel a little motivated at least by reaching your first goal?
Now repeat each easy step in the next room. Do this step by step, one task at a time, each part of the process a goal easily reached. Don’t forget to take the items you are going to dispose of to the recycling centre or charity shops in manageable trips.
