Question
We’ve recently had an offer accepted on a house and would like to know how long we should wait until getting a survey on the property? The sellers of the house we are buying have not found somewhere yet, so we think it might be a while until we complete on the house. Is it worth us getting one straight away or should we wait until a bit closer to it becoming ours to get one?
Answer
As the vendors have not found a property as yet, I would hold off on the survey, but ask them to keep you updated on progress. I would also recommend that, if you are getting a mortgage, you also hold off on the lenders valuation, so you don’t waste your hard earned cash on survey fees, until you’re sure the sale is proceeding.
Do make sure that you do get a full independent survey from a Chartered Surveyor to ensure the property has no hidden defects when the vendors are ready to proceed with the sale.

It is important that you commission a house survey from a Chartered Surveyor before you exchange contracts to ensure that you are fully informed and aware of the structural condition of the property you are intending to purchase.

Good and friendly service and straightforward. The survey is very thorough and my surveyor was extremely helpful when called me to clarify my questions. I would definitely use them again
