Always Helpful Movers

DO NOT use this company unless you want to be ripped off. My family and I will never use a moving company again after this VERY negative experience. I called Always Helpful Movers to set up a time to get a quote. The Owner John came out to do a walk through. I told him we had two 16 foot trucks booked bc my husband didn’t feel comfortable driving a 26 foot truck. I told him we needed a 26 foot truck and someone to load and unload. He said that they have a 26 foot truck and a team that could do that. He sent me quote. I also had a couple other companies get me quotes. John called me twice to see if I were going to go with them. That should of been a red flag. My husband and I discussed the quotes and went with Always Helpful Movers bc they are supposed to be Christian based. Based on that we chose to support them even tho they were a few hundred higher than another company. We sent them the deposit, contract, as well as the insurance money. Shortly after they deposited the check I would receive phone calls every couple days from John as well as different employees asking when I was going to pay the deposit and other questions. I had to inform them they were calling the wrong client and I was not going to Green Bay but Bemidji MN as well as my deposit was paid and cashed weeks prior. I confirmed every time they would be there at 9am on moving day. John said yes 9am start and done at noon. With all the mistakes we started to worry but already paid the deposit and didn’t want to lose $2100. I had to call the day before to ask a question about the balance and was told again 9am start. John sent a group to our house on moving day an hr and half late with a pick up truck and trailer. My husband called John about how we were supposed to have a 26 foot truck and they were supposed to be there at 9am not 10:30am. John said all our stuff would fit in the trailer and if it didn’t he would send another truck over. It didn’t all fit bc we needed a 26 foot truck like I said at the beginning. We were planning on leaving Kansas City no later than 2pm. The first group loaded and left. John never called so my husband called him and was told he was unavailable. We had to wait an hr for someone to bring another trailer to get the rest about 4pm. We didn’t leave our house til 6pm to say our goodbyes to our family. We finally got on the road to drive 6.5hrs at 8:15pm. We got into Minneapolis at 4am after being up at 6am since we were told a 9am start. Two days later they came to deliver our stuff to our new house. John sent us a bill for $2400 when it should have only been $1753. John’s estimate was way off and we could and should of went with another company that was $1000 less instead of trying to support a Christian based company. We reached out to a few people who have used his company before and they had the same complaints about the drastic difference in price. He estimates low to get the business and springs the bill on you at the end.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $4450

Worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. Im glad we now have websites like this were created to help others find honest respectable companies, and save others a complete disaster as we went though with this company. They hide behind trying to convince you they are a honest Christian company ( they put Ministry in their name ) but the owner is anything but. This company was not our first choice, not even top 5, but we had a company double book and we had to find somebody on short notice and they were the only ones able. We had to move on a certain date with no flexibility so we had no choice. Read the fine print. They only cover .60 cents per pd unless extra insurance is bought on non repairable items. This was a simple move: load, store the truck( don't unload it), and 2 weeks later move belongings into new house about 3 miles away. Everything was fine until the last second when they wanted payment and they told us they broke the formal marble/travertine table. Two company's have different opinions on the material, but slab prices are about identical so thecost isn't an issue. We never got to see the broken table before we could make a decision on what to do, they took it upon themselves to try to fix it by watching YOUTUBE videos. Well, as you can expect it looked like a mess. It was a 71" 1 1/4 think table and they with no knowledge or experience tried to fix it themselves. This is after they took it to a few local guys and one said they can't attempt it unless its in one piece, so they thought they could put it in one piece. I called that place and they told me they made it worse by trying to poxy it back together. They finally found a guy I would never have used in a million years attempt to fix it, I warned them they might be throwing their money away because if it doesn't come back acceptable im taking them to court. Which I am, and have a court date in November for the amount of a new table top. They state the manager who did the bid told us about crating the table , etc. Complete lie, I never talked to the manager. They told my wife they would wrap it in thick towels and it would be fine. She believed them. Mistake #3 The owner is making a big deal that I was ok with the move I even tipped them. I tipped the delivery crew, different crew than who loaded it. They never touched the table, the table wasn't on the truck. they blamed it on the warehouse guys.( why is the table even being moved if it wasn't supposed to be offloaded, makes no sense). then they bragged about how the owner would take care of it and how CHRISTIAN the company is we would have no worries. So I felt like why should I hold it against these guys who never touched the table. Mistake #4 Now after the fact DUE YOUR DUE DILLEGENCE on tis company. Look how many times they have been sued. Look at there horrible ratings. And look at the website where they say they have a A rating with the BBB and its really a F rating. It also shows out of 117 movers rated in this area they are the ONLY MOVING COMPANY that has had between 5-25 complaints in the last 36 months. The worst on the BBB website. DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID IIN HIRING THESE GUYS. He also admitted when delivering the table at 7pm over a month later they didn't have any money to compensate for the loss. IF a company can't come up with around $1000 in normal business expenses, watch out. They also tried to pull the shady move of offering us $500 in credit to used furniture that people donated as charity for their Ministry part of the company. Shady! People donated that for charity to pay for missions, not to pay off bad debt, DUE YOUR DUE DILLENGENCE..please.

Service cost: $2100

They were coming up to K.C. from a move in TX at the time my mother needed help, so they gave us a good deal!
They took pictures of the things in the storage unit so we would know if anything was missing or broken when it got to us.
They persevered to move our things at 2 am, though they were delayed on a previous move that day.
They stacked the items in a neat fashion in the new storage facility in a way we could get to them.
They said they would beat the price of any other moving company we contacted, and they did!
They were able to move the items without us having to come down to meet him in Oklahoma.
The price included insurance, gas/mileage, truck fees, and labor.
They encouraged my mother's friend by praying for him.
They covered us with insurance for the items moved.
They were very cordial in our conversations.

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $400

One of the worst moving experiences I've had in multiple ways. I was expecting good service from the previous reviews, but after researching the company after my move, it seems that my experience is more common than not.

1. Move was originally scheduled for 9 am. The movers called about 5 minutes before 9 am to inform be they would be an hour late. They did not show up until 10:30, a FULL HOUR AND HALF later.

2. I was told on the phone when I originally booked that there would be two movers that would come. The day of, three showed up, and I was expected to pay the price of three which I was not quoted. However, even with three men, it took almost three hours to move a one bedroom apartment from the second floor with a huge service elevator to the truck. Maybe if the employees weren't so busy talking among themselves it could have been quicker.

3. I called twice before the move to request wardrobe boxes (once three days before and once the day prior). The day, the movers did not show up with the boxes nor did they know they were supposed to have them. Thus, we proceeded to wait an hour for another man to show up with them, which further delayed the move.

4. The worst part of all was the inconsistency in quotes and the manner in which the information was presented. When I spoke with them about my move originally, I was quoted $1080 for a one bedroom move from Kansas City to St. Louis to another one bedroom. After moving all of my things into the truck, they showed me the contract that had something called a "travel fee", a $540 charge that I was never told of beforehand. The movers called the office for me where the owner rudely told me that they were "not moving me for free" and refused to acknowledge the blatant lie I was told. He estimated for me that the move would actually be around $1250-1300. While I was frustrated, that was still cheaper than a lot of other movers and my stuff was already in the truck. HOWEVER, once reaching St. Louis and moving my things in, the mover called the office again for the final quote and I was told $1570. Absolutely ridiculous. My mother and I spoke with the owner and a manager who addressed us in the most belittling and demeaning way possible, asking us we had the ability to read the contract we signed. At one point, an indirect attack at my mother's immigrant background and thus, her bilingual ability was blamed as the misinformation we were given. The company even refused to acknowledge the quote of $1250 to $1300 we were given a couple of hours prior.

I have never been so frustrated with a moving company and management before. For an organization that celebrates its Christian background, I felt attacked. The management was hateful and disrespectful. I would never use them again nor recommend them to anyone.

There is one word that describes "Always Helpful Movers," AMAZING!!
They went out of their way for me! They were extremely careful with our belongings and were one of the most genuine, caring, kind, personable and professional people I have ever met!
John, the owner is wonderful! He was soo helpful!
Nowadays it is so common to where the owner has his employees do all the work. With John it was not the case at all! He delivered everything safely with Anthony. He made sure everything was put exactly how I wanted it to be and made sure to ask me if there was anything else they could help me with!
Steven was also great! He was professional and got all my belongings into the truck safely. I was worried that we would have to make a few trips back and forth but Steven somehow, thankfully got everything done to where we only had to make one trip! Thank you Steven!!
I also desperately needed to get rid of old mattresses quickly and did not know who/where to call to get rid of them. Anthony and John were so helpful and kind and got it all taken care of for me! I didn't have to do a single thing! :) The fact that they took care of it for me meant a great deal because I didn't have to worry about how I was going to get rid of them before my move-out date which was soon! I was also already working at my new job so it would have been virtually impossible for me to drive 3 hours away after work to get rid of them and have to drive back to go to work the next day!
They are the best moving company we have EVER used!!
The only upsetting factor is that we only got the chance to meet them when we were moving out of Lee's Summit and moving to Springfield, 3 hours away. I wish we had the pleasure of meeting them earlier whenever we still lived there! Thank you all!! Makes me so happy to know that there are still good people out there!! :).

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $1700

I absolutely hate moving with every part of my being, but I‘d move again next week as long as these guys are in charge of the job. I cannot say enough good things about them! They are true professionals with excellent work ethic who will take utmost care of all your possessions. They took on my long distance move very last minute at night after I was completely abandoned by another moving company. Always Helpful movers took my things across 3 states and not one item was broken, damaged, or even scratched. They wrapped everything carefully even when on a time crunch. John’s entire staff is amazingly professional and kind. Both managers that worked with me were excellent. They always answered the phone when I reached out, very responsive and attentive. The young Nigerian and Cameroonian movers, Tom, and the adorable Joseph were all so hardworking and efficient! They never took any breaks and worked tirelessly so the jobs were done in record time. I am immensely grateful I stumbled upon this company, they took all the stress out of my hectic move and I will use them again in a heartbeat for any future moves!
